My top 5 tips for festive functions

Navigating a festive function with share plates … oh my!

How can you possibly keep track of what you are eating in a share plate situation?

My number one tip for this situation is to build a plate using the same basic principles you would use at home.

Think balance, variety, and moderation. This ensures you enjoy the festivities without compromising your nutritional goals.

My Top 5 Tips:

  1. Eat a protein rich snack/light meal before you go: e.g. smoothie, protein yoghurt and a nut bar, cottage cheese on grainy crackers with a handful of raw veg. This preemptive snacking helps curb excessive hunger and keeps you in control during the event.

  2. Grazing Platters: stick to the wholefoods offered. Opt for olives, fresh veggies, and fruits, steering clear of the tempting crackers and dips. This way, you avoid the processed foods and excess calories.

  3. Share Plates: build a plate as you would any other meal – balance your choices by including proteins, veggies, and carbs. This way, you're not only savouring the communal dining experience but also ensuring a well-rounded and satisfying meal. (see below)

  4. Have a say in ordering plenty of veggies based sides: check out the entree menu .. what can you add to bulk out the veg portion of the meal?

  5. Listen to your body. If you are too full, stop eating. When indulging at parties we often overeat due to the distraction of conversations and socialisation.
